Cassation court in Dubai rejects Michel’s plea as it upheld an earlier court order. Michel is the main accused in a scam pertaining to the procurement of 12 VVIP helicopters for the Air Force
New Delhi: In a massive success for India, British middleman Christian Michel, accused of being the linchpin in the AgustaWestland scam, could soon be extradited to New Delhi.
A court of cassation on Monday paved the way for Michel’s extradition to India when it rejected his appeal. Earlier, a Dubai court had ordered his extradition and that decision has been upheld by the cassation court.
MyNation accessed the court order.
BJP’s Suresh Nakhua tweeted that the copy would be handed over to Interpol and Indian authorities in a matter of a day or two.
The alleged scam pertains to the procurement of 12 VVIP helicopters for the Air Force. It was said that competitors of the Italian firm AgustaWestland were chucked out of the tender process to ensure that they bag the Rs 3,600 crore contract. It also came out that Rs 360 crore were paid to different agents to swing the deal to the Italians.
