New Delhi: The law and order situation in Delhi is getting worse than Uttar Pradesh as it has witnessed three murders in the last three days.

In the last 72 hours, a youth was killed for allegedly wanting to marry a Muslim girl, while a passerby, who tried to help a victim of robbery, was murdered and also, a man in Taimoor Nagar area was killed, triggering a massive protest in south east Delhi.

Amid the deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital, Delhi Police commissioner Amulya Patnaik is busy promoting Central government's programmes like Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Digital India and others.

Patnaik is also set to inaugurate a web portal to facilitate public vehicle owners, on Monday evening. On Sunday, Patnaik had flagged off 'plogging drive team' from the heart of Delhi.

In the first of the three cases of crime in past three days, a 34-year old was killed by unknown assailants in Taimoor Nagar area on Sunday. The incident also triggered a massive public protest, which turned violent.

Sadly, when the protesters were out on road in south east Delhi, DCP, south east, Chinmoy Biswal, instead of taking stock of the situation, held a press conference to pat himself in the back in a murder case solved by his team.

In south east area, after the murder, there is a protest going on since the last 16 hours and Ashram Chowk has been blocked. Several bikes and cars were burnt by the agitated protesters, unhappy with the laxity of the local police in handling drug mafia in the area. Rupesh was killed by two assailants in front of five kids on Sunday evening.

According to information received, Rupesh’s brother was fighting against those running a drug racket in Taimoor Nagar. The police are clueless about the murder.

In another incident, 31-year-old Ankit was killed at around 8:30 am in Mahendra Park area of north west Delhi on Monday.

According to the family of the deceased, Ankit was killed because he wanted to marry a Muslim girl.  Ankit’s family claimed that he was threatened several times by the girl’s family and advised him not to marry her. However, according to the police, Ankit was murdered due to personal rivalry.

"One boy Ankit has been shot dead by two assailants at around 8:30 am in the Mahendra Park area. Motive is not clear but his family is alleging that this might be because of a girl with whom he was in relationship with. Although it is not confirmed from the police point of view, it is a personal rivalry," Delhi police said.

The police are yet to make any arrests.

In the third incident, which took place late on Friday night, a collection agent named Surender was looted by unknown persons in Shahdara district. Passerby Mohit, who tried to fight off the miscreants, was shot dead by one of them.

After committing the robbery, the bike-borne robbers got stuck in a traffic jam. Both Surender and Mohit fought off the assailants before one of them shot the latter.
