Delhi high court dismisses Sanjay Nirupam’s defamation case against Smriti Irani

New Delhi: The Delhi high court on Wednesday dismissed Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam’s defamation case against textile minister Smriti Irani. However, Irani’s defamation case against Nirupam will continue as it is, said the court.

Currently, the hearing is going on in the Patiala House Court.

Both politicians had filed defamation cases against each other over a spat during a TV show in 2013.

During a debate on the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, Nirupam questioned Irani’s capability as a political analyst.

"I don't have to listen to you. It's been four days since you have entered politics and you already think you are a great political analyst... till yesterday you were dancing on television and today you have become a politician,” said Nirupam, according to media reports.

On the other hand, Nirupam filed a defamation case against Irani alleging that she made "defamatory and scurrilous comments" against him during the same TV debate.
