The government sources were responding to activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan's act of moving the Supreme Court against the removal of Alok Verma, alleging that the officer had been removed to 'prevent an investigation into the Rafale deal'
New Delhi: Top government sources today debunked the allegation that CBI head Alok Verma had been sent on a forced leave due to the Rafale deal connection, saying that the investigating agency had sent only one anonymous complaint to the defence ministry in June regarding the allegation of corruption in the plane deal.
“The defence ministry received only one anonymous complaint on the Rafale issue from the CBI, which had asked us to take appropriate action and no request has so far been received for documents or other details of the case from the CBI,” top government sources told MyNation.
The sources were responding to the allegation that Verma had been removed from top CBI post as he had initiated a probe into the matter, whitch could have affected the Modi government.
In a late night development, the government last night sent two top officers of the CBI — Verma and Rakesh Asthana — on forced leaves and appointed Nageshwar Rao as the interim chief of the agency.
Activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan has, meanwhile, moved the Supreme Court against the removal of Verma, alleging that the officer was removed to “prevent an investigation into the Rafale deal”.
The CAG is auditing the Rafale deal signed by the Modi government under which 36 planes are being acquired to meet emergency requirements of the IAF.
