Sitharaman meeting with Mattis is a follow-up on the tri-lateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Donald Trump and Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe.

They will be discussing how to share information in the Indo-Pacific theatre through the secure COMCASA network — which the nation had signed on September 7, 2018, during the ‘2+2 Dialogue’ with the US.

The network will enable India to access the big database of American intelligence, including real-time imagery.  The network, which will allow both sides to operate on the same communication systems, is expected to provide an “interoperable” environment for militaries.
