Cyclone to hit northern Tamil Nadu on November 14

The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, has predicted a cyclone hit in northern parts of Tamil Nadu due to depression in the Andaman Sea. Fishermen have been asked to stay away from the sea with special weather warning.

Chennai: Director of Agromet Advisory Service Unit at the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, in a press conference, on Saturday, said that the low pressure area over the Andamans has intensified into a depression and is likely to escalate into a cyclone, moving towards the northern parts of Tamil Nadu and southern parts of Andhra Pradesh by November 14 night. The wind speed as predicted is currently 85 km per hour.  

Moderate rains are also expected in northern coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and southern coastal of Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rains are also expected at these places on the evening of November 14.

The Indian Meteorological Department has asked fishermen not to go near the sea from November 13 to November 15. In a special weather announcement, fishermen who are in deep sea, have been asked to return to land before November 14.  

Andaman and Nicobar Islands, coasts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have been marked as areas to be avoided during these days. It also includes parts of Bay of Bengal and Comorin Maldives area.
