Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Police have arrested a naxal operative, who worked as an officer at the Hyderabad-based National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI).
The man, identified as N Venkat Ro alias Murty (54), was heading towards Rajnandgaon district from Maharashtra’s Deori on a motorcycle when he was arrested by the local police. He is a native of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, Inspector General of Police (Durg Range) GP Singh said.
Singh said that the police have recovered 23 detonators, naxal documents, Maoist literature, a laptop, one mobile phone, two chargers from him.
Murty was working as a senior technical officer at NGRI. Murty was allegedly supplying explosives and other stuff to Maoist cadres in areas close to Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border.
On being subjected to interrogation, the arrested naxal operative admitted to supporting the naxal ideology after being inspired by radical students’ union protest in Andhra Pradesh in the 1980s, police sources said.
