Chennai schoolgirl killed after water tanker runs over her

Chennai: A girl was crushed under the wheels of a water tanker as she was run over by the heavy vehicle on New Avadi Road in Kilpauk in Chennai. The 13-year-old Jemima Achu Mathew, a Class VIII student of Union Christian Public School was riding pillion on her uncle's bike at 7.45 am on December 7 when the incident occurred. The water tanker driver was honking continuously when Jemima's uncle who was riding a two-wheeler along with his daughter and Jemima, gave him the way. But instead of overtaking the bike, the driver hit the bike resulting in the trio’s fall. Jemima fell to the right and the lorry ran over her, whereas her uncle and his daughter fell on the left and suffered minor injuries. Govindarajan, 23, the driver of the vehicle, has been arrested.
