This comes barely a day after explosive claims were made by an officer against the National Security Adviser, a Union minister and the Central Vigilance Commissioner in the agency’s ongoing power tussle
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned hearing the CBI chief Alok Verma’s plea against the government’s decision to divest him of all charges till November 29.
Sidelined CBI director Alok Verma had filed his reply to the Central Vigilance Report in Supreme Court on Monday. His reply will deal with the CVC report, which was categorised into four parts by the apex court as "complimentary, very complimentary, not so complimentary and very uncomplimentary" for the CBI director.
CJI Ranjan Gogoi handed over a copy of the report to Alok Verma's lawyer Fali S Nariman. “Read it yourself and tell us if you want more time to reply', is what the CJI's copy says.
CJI also expressed displeasure over leakage of confidential information.
He said, "Our efforts were to make sure individual officers are protected and so we asked for confidentiality. But we don't think any of you deserves a hearing."
To which, Nariman said: "I am disturbed. Any leak was unauthorised. Free press and responsible press should go hand in hand.”
This comes barely a day after explosive claims were made by an officer against the National Security Adviser, a Union minister and the Central Vigilance Commissioner in the agency’s ongoing power tussle.
A top CBI official, Manish Kumar Sinha, on Monday, moved the Supreme Court seeking a court-monitored SIT probe into the allegation of bribe against Special CBI Director Rakesh Asthana in the meat exporter Moin Qureshi case.
The petition refers to charges of bribe being made to a Union minister and the other accused claiming connections with the "high and mighty" in the power corridors, including National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.
