Carnatic singer TM Krishna has been facing severe criticism for his blinkered view of the Tamil culture in general and branding legendary late MS Subbulakshmi as a singer who 'Brahminised' herself to gain wider acceptance
Mysuru: Carnatic singer TM Krishna is controversy's favourite child. He looks at Tamils through the lens of caste. He said on November 24, 2017, that MS Subbulakshmi had 'Brahminised' herself to gain acceptance among Tamils. He received flak also for singing Christian hymns.
This was the kind of response that greeted the singer last year for his casteism:
With such a chequered background, Krishna was bound to be questioned by the community when it was announced he would perform at a concert on November 17 at Nehru Park in New Delhi.
The announcement was made by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) after people trolled singer Krishna and also questioned AAI for sponsoring the programme.
"We would like to inform that due to some urgent engagements, 'Dance and Music in the Park' programme jointly organised by AAI and SPICMACAY, scheduled on November 17 and 18 has been postponed and new dates would be announced shortly. Inconvenience is regretted," said AAI on Thursday.

Krishna's Mysuru concert and workshop on ‘Rare Kritis of Sri Muthuswamy Dikshitar’, scheduled on November 22 and 23 at Kuvempu Nagar in Mysuru, Karnataka, is also facing trouble. The event is hosted by Ganabharathi. However, the organisers of this too are receiving threats against hosting the Carnatic vocalist, stating it is against classical elements.
Krishna is a Magsaysay Award winner. In August, the singer was threatened for singing Carnatic songs in praise of Jesus and Allah.
Reacting to the same, Krishna had tweeted,
Considering the vile comments and threats issued by many on social media regarding Karnatik compositions on Jesus, I announce here that I will be releasing one karnatik song every month on Jesus or Allah.
T.M. Krishna
