In the last week of August, Naidu was moving with a company of a Parachute battalion when his troop came under heavy firing

Artillery officer Captain (acting rank) MD Naidu played a pivotal role during the 1965 war with Pakistan.

Naidu occupied a vantage position and directed ways to combat the enemy, which allowed his troop to advance and win over their objective.

In September, when Naidu was accompanying his battalion's team on an offensive mission, the troop came under fire again. During the encounter, he was injured but continued to engage the enemy for three hours and his actions resulted in the failure of successive counter attacks by the enemy.

He was awarded Vir Chakra for his bravery.
