The Bulandshahr violence took place in Mahao village in Syana area of Bulandshahr, some 100 km from Delhi, when a cow carcass was allegedly found in a thicket
Srinagar: Uttar Pradesh Police on Saturday arrested the Indian Army jawan allegedly involved in the murder of a police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh during protests over cow carcasses found in a Bulandshahr village on December 3. The jawan identified as Jeetendra Malik alias Jeetu Fouji was arrested from North Kashmir.
While an Uttar Pradesh Police team was sent to Jammu and Kashmir to arrest Malik, the Jammu and Kashmir Police was not alerted about the same. “We were not informed of any team from Uttar Pradesh Police coming. In cases related to Army, the arrest warrant is handed over to the commanding officer of the unit and he then hands the accused to the police. We have no role in that,” said a top official of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to MyNation.
Earlier, the UP Police issued an arrest warrant against Malik, who was absconding since Singh’s killing.
The violence took place in Mahao village in Syana area of Bulandshahr, some 100 km from Delhi, when a cow carcass was allegedly found in a thicket. The news travelled fast in the area and the situation worsened. A large crowd staged a blockade of the Bulandshahr-Dhar highway, carrying the cow carcass. The police tried to intervene, which led to hostilities.
