Ramanagara's BJP candidate, L Chandrashekar withdrew his nomination just 48 hours ahead of the Karnataka by-election.
Bengaluru: The state BJP has urged the Central Election Commission to postpone the upcoming Ramanagara's by-poll, which is scheduled to be held on November 3.
BJP SC Morcha’s national general secretary, CN Ramu, requested the Election Commission on Thursday night.
The Ramanagara constituency has fallen vacant after its MLA HD Kumaraswamy took charge as the chief minister of Karnataka in May. BJP issued B Form to L Chandrashekhar to contest from Ramanagara constituency in the by-polls. However, on Thursday, Chandrashekhar announced that he is withdrawing from the elections. "If at all he wins the election, he will be disqualified to become the MLA as he has already resigned the party. Therefore the election must be postponed," the BJP urged.
Several legal aspects have been proposed while demanding the postponement of elections. It is learned that a delegation of senior BJP leaders will meet the Election Commission regarding this today.
