Mukul Roy was a former TMC member of parliament and joined the BJP last year after a fall out with Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. He has been booked for TMC MLA Satyajit Biswas's murder.
Kolkata: Bengal BJP leader Mukul Roy has been named by the Kolkata Police in the FIR lodged at Hanskhali police station regarding the murder of TMC MLA Satyajit Biswas on February 9. Two more BJP supporters were also arrested in connection with the murder.
Roy was a former TMC member of Parliament and joined the BJP last year after a fall out with Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. He also served as the railway minister in the Manmohan Singh government.
Biswas was shot dead by some unidentified assailants on Saturday in Nadia district.
The incident occurred when Biswas representing Krishnagar constituency was present at Saraswati puja at Phoolbari under Hanskhali police station area.
He was immediately taken to a local hospital where doctors announced him "brought dead".
Meanwhile, the TMC government accuse the BJP for the murder. While Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee said that only a ‘bloodthirsty’ party like the BJP is capable of such acts, the BJP blamed Mamata for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
The BJP and TMC have been at loggerheads following a slugfest between the Central Bureau of Investigation and Kolkata Police regarding the questioning of Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar in connection with the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scams. Blaming the BJP for the TMC MLA's murder is another example of the Mamata-led party playing vendetta politics.
