Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP has called for a district-wide dawn to dusk hartal on Tuesday in Thiruvananthapuram district over the Sabarimala issue. The decision has been taken to protest the police action on the BJP workers and Yuva Morcha activists who clashed with the police and tried to barge into the secretariat compound. The BJP called for a hartal in the states’ capital from 6am to 6pm to protest the actions of Kerala police.
The protestors demand was that the government mediate to end the indefinite fast by BJP leader AN Radhakrishnan in front of the secretariat. He has been on a fast and has demanded the withdrawal of prohibitory orders in Sabarimala.
Rupesh, a political activist said, "The reason behind the BJP and the UDF protest is for the same reason; political power. Both parties are trying to gather as much votes as possible for the next 2019 Lok Sabha election."
Speaking to MyNation, Arun Aruviruthi, a BJP activist and Balan Chengal, a UDF activist, when asked about the political intent behind the protest said that they are protesting to remove Section 144 and for the government to mediate and end the indefinite fast of their leaders."
