The Special Investigation Team probing the attack on YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy was asked to submit a report on the status of the case by the Hyderabad high court.

Hyderabad: YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy had filed a petition requesting for a status update on the ongoing investigation by the Special Investigating Team (SIT) of the Andhra Pradesh police. The hearing bench included Chief Justice T B Radhakrishnan and Justice SV Bhatt. They directed the Advocate General of the state to submit the report by Tuesday.

Jagan Reddy indicated that he did not trust the investigation being conducted by the SIT, which is headed by assistant commissioner of police (ACP) BVS Nageswara Rao. He also demanded, in his plea, that this probe be handed over to an independent party or to central agency. He had filed a case on an incident that took place on October 25. Jagan was attacked by an airport restaurant waiter, later identified as J Srinivasa Rao aka Srinivas, while he was waiting at the VIP lounge in Vizag.

Jagan suspects a foul play in the investigation as director general of police (DGP) RP Thakur, in his press conference, an hour after the incident, stated that the accused had attacked him (Jagan) as a publicity stunt and was a fan of his. This is not the first time Jagan is fighting for central intervention. Earlier too, he had written to the Union home minister Rajnath Singh seeking inspection into the case. In the letter, he declared that the DGP’s announcement was a premature conclusion considering the time period between the incident and the press meet.

Simultaneously the judicial remand for Srinivas was extended to November 23 by the third metropolitan magistrate in Visakhapatnam.
