Guwahati: At least six people were injured in an explosion inside a coach of an intercity train in Assam’s Udalguri district on Saturday evening.
According to reports, the explosion took place at Kathalguri area near Harisinga railway station at around 6:55 pm.
During a preliminary investigation, the police suspected that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded inside the fourth coach from the engine of 15815 Kamakhya-Dekargaon intercity train.
At least six people were injured in the explosion and the injured people were rushed to the Harisinga Civil Hospital.
Top police and NF railway officials have rushed to the spot.
Meanwhile, four injured people have been rushed to Guwahati Medical College hospital.
This is not the first time Assam has witnessed a bomb blast in the recent past. In October, an explosion rocked through the bustling Pan Bazaar area, injuring at least four people. The United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) took responsibility for the blast. ULFA commander-in-chief Paresh Barua was quoted then saying, “This explosion was directed against those opposing the NRC update and against those organisations supporting the settling of Hindu Bangladeshis in Assam. This explosion is to warn the anti-Assam forces.”
