According to the FIR, Talib Hussain forcibly tried to rape a woman when she went to Chadwa Forests for grazing her cattle
Social activist and lawyer Talib Hussain, who politicised the Kathua gangrape and murder case with his agitation, has been arrested by Jammu and Kashmir Police for allegedly raping a married woman.
Hussain has often been spotted with Shehla Rashid, the fiery communist student union leader in Jawaharlal Nehru University who hails from Kashmir, at mass demonstrations.
As per the FIR, a copy of which was accessed by MyNation, a married woman has filed a complaint against Hussain for raping and threatening her.
Police said that an FIR was filed against him following a preliminary inquiry into the complaint.
The FIR says that Hussain has been booked under the Sections 376 RPC, Arms Act 1959 (4) and 1959 (25).
According to the FIR, Hussain tried to rape the complainant when she went to the Chadwa forests for grazing her cattle. She also alleged that Hussain had tried to threaten her with tokka, a sharp-edged knife.
Samba SSP Anil Magotra, while confirming the arrest of Hussain, said, "Yes, we have received a complaint, acting on which he has been arrested."
Sources told this correspondent that Hussain was arrested from the Tral area of Srinagar yesterday. he will be brought to Samba soon.
Hussain was earlier booked for alleged domestic violence and attempt to kill his wife over dowry. Nusrat Begum (30), Wife of the accused, had filed a complaint alleging physical torture by his husband for dowry.
