Vaiko wants to be an ally of DMK, but perhaps the Dravidian party wants to distance itself from MDMK for it did not help Stalin's party win RK Nagar bypolls in 2017

Chennai: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) chief Vaiko expressed his anger against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for its remark that so far only Congress and IUML are its allies. Vaiko demanded clarification from MK Stalin in this regard.

MDMK has been supporting DMK for more than a year. But with no mention of party's name in the list of alliances, Vaiko's temper rose.

It all started when DMK treasurer Duraimurugan recently in a Tamil television programme said that as of now, only the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League, and the CPI and CPI(M) were allies of the DMK.

Reacting to this, Vaiko has said that MDMK members are hurt by this. After treasurer's comments, "We now want to know what DMK president Stalin has to say," he said.

Vaiko had not only campaigned for DMK in 2017 during RK Nagar bypoll, but had also said that Stalin was set to become the next chief minister of Tamil Nadu.

However, Vaiko's campaign did not help DMK. It instead led to the victory of AMMK party chief TTV Dhinakaran.

MDMK, VCK, CPI and CPI(M) were part of the six party bloc People's Welfare Front and supported DMK after 2016 Assembly poll debacle.

MDMK and VCK are expecting to be part of DMK-led alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, but DMK has made no official announcement in this regard.
