Acting in retaliation to comments made by BJP president Amit Shah in a rally in Andhra Pradesh on Monday, two Telugu Desam Party leaders were detained for attempting to set ablaze an effigy of Prime Minister Modi in protest.
Srikakulam: On Monday, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and workers of Srikakulam district in Palasa held a protest, reacting to comments made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah in a rally in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.
The protest was held at NTR's statue where slogans were raised against Shah asking him to go back. The TDP workers also tried to set ablaze the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but police intervened and foiled their attempt.
The TDP workers roared slogans demanding implementation of special category status for Andhra Pradesh.
Palasa MLA GSS Sivaji led the protest along with district TDP president G Sirisha. The leaders were detained for some time in Kasibugga police station.
On Monday, BJP president Amit Shah termed the TDP supremo and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu as a "U-turn Chief Minister" and declared he would not be allowed to enter the NDA alliance again and remarked that the doors are closed for his alliance.
In his rally in Andhra Pradesh, Shah took a jibe at Chandrababu Naidu for switching parties when either the BJP or the Congress came to power at the Centre, Shah accused Naidu of misguiding the people of the state.
Shah also spoke about Naidu's incompetence politics and said that he spent about ten years without being part of any political organisation. "Naidu realised that he could not come to power without Narendra Modi and joined the NDA which he had opposed earlier," Shah said.
