Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus has been hit by yet another controversy after a map of India without the state of Jammu and Kashmir was displayed on a banner.

AMU PRO Shafey Kidwai tried to defend the university’s position by saying they had pulled the banner, which was made by the drama society for an anti-partition drama, down as soon as the teacher-in-charge got the information.

According to reports, the controversial map of India had parts of Pakistan included, while the region of Jammu and Kashmir was wrongly depicted. These distorted maps were also hung from the main gate of the university.

The university explaining further said that though the banners have nothing to do with India’s politics, they were pulled down after the controversy erupted. Also, the drama, which was based on Asghar Wajahat's 'Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya... O Jamya Nai', has been postponed — a famous play about India-Pakistan partition.

Last month, the Chhattisgarh unit of the Indian National Congress tweeted a map of India where the entire Kashmir was not visible. This happened as the handle was attempting to blame chief minister Raman Singh for making the state poorer.
