New Delhi: The infamous Neo engine made two Airbus aircraft make emergency landings on Saturday. The engines malfunctioned mid-air. In both the cases, the airline was GoAir.
In the first instance, it was G8033 flying from Delhi to Male. The first engine failed after take-off and returned to Delhi.
In the other instance, flight G8285 between Goa to Delhi had to turn back midway after a cargo smoke warning. A full emergency was declared when it made the landing back at the Goa Airport.
Both the planes were Airbus A320neos. Neo aircraft have had a history of technical snags due to which many of these planes were grounded earlier by aviation watchdog, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
In a statement with reference to the emergency landing in Goa, GoAir said, "GoAir sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused to its passengers. GoAir is committed to the highest degree of safety of its passengers and its own crew members and the crew. Flight is delayed as CVR has to be replaced. This a standard operating procedure." The CVR is a cockpit voice recorder.
