This is not the first case in which Jarwal has been found guilty. In 2018, he was found guilty of intimidating a woman and is also one of the accused in assaulting ex-Delhi chief secretary Anshu Prakash.
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Deoli MLA Prakash Jarwal is once again in the eye of a legal storm. The AAP legislator was convicted by the Patiala House courts, along with two others, of inciting a riot against the police and assaulting police personnel from a 2013 case.
The court of the additional chief metropolitan magistrate Samar Vishal held Jarwal guilty along with Salim and Dharma Prakash in the matter.
The court would decide the quantum of punishment on March 13.
Jarwal has been held guilty in a case from 2013 when he had on MB Road incited a crowd to attack police personnel and had vandalised several government vehicles.
According to the complaint, the police received information on August 30, 2013, that 100-odd people had blocked MB Road and were vandalising vehicles. The crowd was protesting against the police for allegedly going slow in a murder case. The police reached the spot and found a large crowd in which some people were trying to incite the mob into a frenzy. The crowd paid no heed to the repeated pleas of the police and went ahead with vandalism and attacked them.
Earlier in 2018 a Delhi court had convicted him of intimidating a woman when additional sessions judge Samar Vishal had convicted Jarwal in the 2017 case. Jarwal had been accused of assaulting the complainant along with other associates. The complainant had said that the entire matter was over her son dancing in the rally of another party in the MCD elections. He had also allegedly threatened to fire her husband who works for the Delhi Jal Board.
Jarwal is also one of the accused in assaulting the chief secretary of Delhi, Anshu Prakash. He was arrested, along with Amanatullah Khan, and sent to Tihar jail in the case.
