50% homeless in Delhi also roof-less: IGSSS study

New Delhi: A recent study by the Indo-Global Social Service Society showed that the homeless people in Delhi still live in miserable conditions. 

Anirudh, who is a project officer of urban poverty at IGSSS says, "The study was done on 1,141 homeless people of the national capital."

Indu Prakash Singh, who is a member of the urban poverty monitoring committee of Supreme Court, says, "From 10 shelters in 2001 to 270 shelters this year, we have come a long way."

Delhi has the highest number of night shelters today. As many as 54% of them are living in the capital city for more than 10 years. 

Bipin Rai, who is an expert member of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, says, "We are planning to build worker men hostel and moving night shelters now."
