Let's explore some essential points you should keep in mind before purchasing a water purifier.

Water purifiers have become an important household necessity. In the past, they were seen as a luxury item and often came with a hefty price tag. Today, they are widely available and reasonably priced, making clean water more accessible for everyone. This shift reflects the growing awareness of water quality and the importance of having a reliable purification system at home. Let's explore some essential points you should keep in mind before purchasing a water purifier.

Water purity

To assess the quality of the water, you can measure the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) using a TDS meter. A TDS reading of 50 to 100 ppm is generally acceptable. Readings below 50 or above 100 may indicate the need for a water purifier. A TDS level between 150 and 200 ppm is considered good, while levels above 200 ppm are poor, and those above 400 ppm are considered very poor.

Water purifiers

The type of water purifier you should choose depends on the source of your water. For example, if your water comes from a borewell or well, or if you are in a coastal area, an RO (Reverse Osmosis) purifier is recommended. For water from pipelines, such as municipal water or tankers, a UV (Ultraviolet) purifier is generally suitable. RO purifiers are effective for more contaminated sources, while UV purifiers are appropriate for less contaminated water.

Water consumption

Choose a water purifier according to your family’s needs. Calculate the daily water consumption per person and add 20% more to account for additional use. This will help determine the appropriate water purifier size for your home. You can find high-quality water purifiers online starting at around Rs 10,000.
