With invites to play the infamous Momo Challenge online game still being sent out across the country, educational institutions have stepped in to ask the parents to monitor children from indulging in the game.
Shortly after The West Bengal CID issued a public notice advising people to contact the police on receiving an invitation to play the Momo Challenge game, schools have also followed suit. The Association of Heads of ICSE schools, West Bengal has called upon all member schools to urge parents to keep a watch on their children with regard to dangerous online games such as Blue Whale and Momo Challenge. However, the general secretary of the Association, Nabaru Dey said that there were no such cases reported by member schools about any student, and no 'Advisory' was issued by CID till date on the issue.
At least two deaths in the country have been linked to the Momo Challenge. This involves an unsuspecting player getting an invitation to play in which he/she is asked to fulfil violent tasks to meet 'Momo' and failure to do so results in threats of dire consequences.
Previously, a similar game, the Blue Whale Challenge had also claimed several young casualties. According to some Reddit conversations, some of the tasks required by Blue Whale players include carving a specific phrase on the person’s own hand or arm, making lengthwise cuts on the person’s own arm, writing “yes” on the person’s own leg if they're ready to be a whale or cutting themselves multiple times to pledge allegiance, watching scary videos all day etc.
It is alleged that the Momo Challenge has claimed lives of two persons at Kurseong in Darjeeling district.
