The designer is now getting trolled on social media for claiming that the bride was 'dressed head-to-toe in Sabyasachi for their wedding'
Mumbai: Words carry a lot of weight especially if written by Sabyasachi Mukherjee in the caption for the biggest wedding of 2018, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. The go-to designer for all Indian brides, Mukherjee had proudly claimed in his social media handles that the couple would be 'dressed head-to-toe in Sabyasachi for their wedding'.
Turns out, that was not the case.
Deepika's gorgeous bridal red Kanjeevaram sari from her Konkani wedding ceremony is not a Sabyasachi design but from a silk store in Bengaluru, Angadi Galleria. As per tradition, in a Mangalorean wedding, the bride wears a sari given by her mother and so, Ujjala Padukone had gifted Deepika a zari Kanjeevaram duly purchased from the store.
After seeing the claims on designer's social media, the store contacted senior fashion journalist Shefali Vasudevan, following which she took to her Instagram handle to reveal the real makers of the wedding outfit.
After being informed of the same, Mukherjee quickly posted a note on Instagram giving credit to the store.
However, netizens were quick to call out the designer in spite of his effort to give credit where it is due. One commenter wrote, "Sooo “mildly altered” makes it Sabyasachi??? And we’re talking about JUST the saree here." while other wrote, " their famous caption "head to toe in Sabyasachi" was enough. I think missing this "minor" detail was all but deliberate. They brazened it out till they could."
