This is Uber’s first boat service in the country and second globally. The company first launched water transportation in Croatia in 2017.

Mumbai: All those memes about taking a boat to work during rains in Mumbai have come true. Turns out Uber is set to laugh all the way to the bank with this idea. The global taxi aggregator will launch boat services around Mumbai in partnership with the Maharashtra Maritime Board from February 1.

UberBOAT will operate on already existing ferry routes around the seas of Mumbai. This includes speedboats to connect Gateway of India to Elephanta Islands and Mandwa Jetty that connects Alibaug to Mumbai.

The prices are slightly steeper than your usual ferry rides though, at Rs 5,700 for 6-8 seater speed boat and Rs 9,500 for a 10+ seater.

Uber officials confirmed that this is the pilot project and more routes will be added soon.
