Labour Day acknowledges and honours the contributions of workers all across the world. Every year on May 1st, people all around the world commemorate International Labour Day, also known as May Day or Workers' Day.

Every year on May 1st, we observe Labor Day, also known as May Day or International Workers' Day. This day has two purposes: it reminds workers of their rights and recognizes them for their contributions to society.

History:
The origins of Labour Day can be traced back to the nineteenth-century struggle for workers' rights in the United States. On May 1, 1886, a huge walkout broke out, with roughly 200,000 workers demanding an eight-hour workweek. This movement became violent in Chicago, resulting in the Haymarket Affair.

A peaceful gathering in Chicago's Haymarket Square turned into tragedy when a device detonated. The Haymarket Affair, as it became known, had losses on both sides - protestors and police officers.

In 1889, the International Socialist Conference established May 1st as Workers' Day to commemorate the labor movement and the Haymarket event. The first official commemoration occurred a year later, in 1890.

Theme:
Each year, a new theme is revealed for the International Labour Day ceremonies. This year's theme is ensuring workplace safety and health in the face of climate change.

Significance:
Workers have made major contributions to nation-building through their hard work. Labour Day not only recognizes workers' hard work but also aims to inform them about their rights and protect them from exploitation. It is also intended to inspire initiatives to improve working conditions and assist workers in moving forward.

International Labour Day is more than just a day to acknowledge concerns. It is also about envisioning a brighter future for working people. It motivates everyone to work toward a world in which every worker is appreciated, protected, and allowed to succeed.
