Some of our best 20th century art inspires international dialogue at UK’s Masterpiece London Fair

20th century Indian art has a rich and unparalleled diversity, but the carefully curated selection at Masterpiece London 2018 had been chosen to reflect its ability to be a part of an international dialogue.

For the third year running, DAG (formerly known as Delhi Art Gallery) participated at Masterpiece London 2018, UK’s leading cross collecting fair for art, design and collectibles.

Consisting of 11 hand-picked works by Jamini Roy, Krishen Khanna, Tyeb Mehta, MF Husain and Rameshwar Broota at al, the paintings straddle the period from the 1940s to the 1980s—a time when Indian modern art was coming into its own.

Each work has the ability to transcend time and space and represents a different geographical region of the country.

Taken together, they trace the elaborate course of Indian modern art history and have been part of extensive documentation and critical writing around their styles and subjects.

The artworks chosen represent a dialogue about scale and artistic development, in a space designed by Paris-based Studio Adrien Gardère—whose most notable Museum permanent exhibitions design includes the Musée du Louvre-Lens, the New Royal Academy in London, and the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto.
