The festival of colours is here, and you must give extra care to your skin and hair during the celebrations. Dr Shreya Kaushik, a cosmetologist, shares her insights on how you can protect your skin during the festivities.

Holi, renowned as the festival of colours, also symbolizes the victory of good over evil. People come together to celebrate this festival with vibrant Holi colours. Delightful sweets are served to brighten the celebrations. However, it’s important to be mindful when using Holi colours. Dr Shreya Kaushik, a cosmetologist, shares her insights on how you can protect your skin during the festivities.

Importance of hydration

Holi is played during the daytime in the sun, and the prolonged sun exposure can harm your skin. Therefore, before you head to join the Holi festivities, remember to hydrate yourself. Wash your face with cold water and consume coconut water to maintain your body’s hydration levels. Apply almond oil generously to exposed areas of the skin.

Choose to wear full-sleeve clothing to avoid sun exposure and minimize the contact of colours with the skin. Also apply moisturizer and sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

Oil for hair care

Furthermore, Dr Shreya advises to use chemical-free Holi colours. Celebrating Holi with organic colours is the best way to protect your skin from damage. She also advises avoiding shampoo before playing Holi. Apply oil to your hair before playing with colours.

Buying Holi colours

When purchasing Holi colours, go for herbal or organic ones. These colours are widely available in the markets. Avoid chemical-based colours as they can have adverse effects on the body. In case of any issues, seek medical attention promptly. Moreover, you can also consider making organic colours at home using flowers.
