Eyes are important and keeping them safe and healthy are a challenge. Precaution is always better than cure. So, here are eight ways that will keep your eyesight healthy and safe. It's time to go 'roshni ki ore (seek the light)'.
Conduct comprehensive dilated eye test:
Many common eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and age-related macular degeneration will be known only after dilated eye exam.
Keep a check on your family’s eye health history:
It’s important to know if anyone has an eye condition as many eye-related diseases are hereditary.
Eat right and protect your eyesight:
A diet rich in fruits and vegetables, dark leafy greens such as spinach, or fish (high in omega-3 fatty acids) such as salmon, tuna, and halibut are very good for healthy eyes.
Healthy weight can do wonders for eyes too:
Being obese increases the risk of developing diabetes that can lead to vision loss, such as glaucoma.
Do not shy away from protective eyewear:
Protective eyewear includes safety glasses and goggles, safety shields, and eye guards designed to provide the correct protection for specified activity.
Don't stress your eyes, give them some rest:
Every 20 minutes, look away about 20 feet in front of you for 20 seconds, especially if you are working on computer. This will reduce strain on eyes.
Use clean contact lenses with clean hands:
Wash your hands clean before touching the contacts or glasses and also make sure to disinfect lenses before you use them.
Take workplace eye safety measures seriously:
If needed, make wearing protective gears for your eyes a habit and do not neglect the instructions of the need for eye protection. Looking cool all the time may cost you your eyesight.
