Learner’s license

Having a driving license is important for every driver. If you are found driving on Indian roads without a license, a heavy fine may be levied on you. Many people find it tiresome to visit the RTO office to apply for their driving license. The application process is laborious. However, there is an easy way to apply for it on your own without the involvement of a middleman.

Applying for a learner’s license

The first step to obtaining a permanent driving license is applying for a learner’s one. This permits individuals to practice driving on roads under the supervision of an experienced driver. After a one-month period, you can take your on-road driving test. Upon successfully passing this test, a permanent license is issued. The process of obtaining a learner's license can be done online.

Follow these simple steps:

•    Go to the official website of Parivahan Sarathi, which is https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/
•    Click on the option ‘Driving License’ on the homepage. Then select your state or union territory.
•    Read the instructions carefully. Make sure you understand the eligibility criteria, required documents, and any other guidelines provided.
•    Next, choose the option ‘Apply for Learner's License’ and proceed to fill the online application form. Add all the required information.
•    Upload scanned copies of documents such as proof of identity, proof of address, passport-sized photograph, and age proof.
•    Next, book a slot for the learner's license test. Select a date and time that is convenient for you.
•    Pay the fee online. The fee amount may vary depending on your state and the type of learner's license you're applying for (e.g., motorcycle, car, both).
•    Appear for the test online. The test usually consists of questions related to road signs, traffic rules, and regulations.
•    If you pass the test, you will be issued a learner's license on the same day. It will be valid for a specific period, during which you can practice driving under the supervision of a licensed driver.
•    After holding the learner's license for a minimum of 30 days, you can apply for a permanent driving license.

You can contact the RTO on the provided contact number or the email ID if you experience any issues while filling the application.
