Several foods can make you feel lethargic if you consume them during the morning hours. Bringing these foods to the office for lunch or ordering them can disrupt your work productivity. Let’s learn about five such foods that cause sleepiness at workplace.

Fried foods

Avoid eating fried foods like French fries or bakery items like pastries, and cakes, as they can lead to feelings of tiredness and sleepiness. To stay active all day, it is advisable to refrain from consuming high-fat foods during office hours.

Rice

When rice is digested, the carbohydrates it contains are converted into glucose. Glucose triggers the release of insulin, which in turn increases the levels of hormones such as melatonin and serotonin in the body. These hormones promote relaxation and sleepiness. Therefore, avoid eating rice dishes for lunch.

Other similar foods

Several other foods that are rich in melatonin can promote relaxation and help in sleep. These foods include oats, pistachios, tomatoes, mushrooms, eggs, and rice.

High-protein diet

While protein diet is essential to stay active all day, a high-protein diet can make you feel lethargic. Refrain from consuming poultry products, soy products, seeds, milk, and spinach in large quantities. These foods require more energy to digest, inducing a state of relaxation and lethargy.

Sugar

Sugary foods can also lead to sleepiness. Sugar provides energy to the body but consuming it in excessive amounts will not be healthy for you. This can also cause a spike in blood sugar levels, leading to feelings of lethargy. Consume everything in moderate amounts for a healthy well-being.
