It is highly likely that HD Deve Gowda might return to his tried and tested constituency of Hassan for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. There are talks that the former Prime Minister is diffident about his chances from the three other constituencies. But BJP’s R Ashoka said that a "vengeful Siddaramaiah might ensure Deve Gowda loses in Bangalore North and Tumakuru" to avenge his defeat in Chamundeshwari during the recent Assembly polls
Bengaluru: In politics, foes turn fiends and fiends turn foes. Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and former chief minister Siddaramaiah were addressing a joint presser in relation to Lok Sabha elections in Bengaluru. But behind the curtains, in a surreptitious manner, Siddaramaiah might be plotting an ignominious defeat for Deve Gowda.
By now, talks of Deve Gowda reverting to his tried and tested constituency of Hassan are getting louder. This is because the JD(S) chief senses a sort of diffidence and a consequent defeat if he contests from Bangalore North or Mysore or Tumakuru, say party sources. To save himself from the embarrassment, he might ask his grandson to relinquish his desires for the time-being. But the bigger story, as alleged by the BJP is that Siddaramaiah wants to exact revenge against Deve Gowda.
BJP leader R Ashoka said, "Siddaramaiah means revenge. He wants to ensure Deve Gowda loses in Bangalore North and Tumakuru. So it's obvious that Deve Gowda will return to his turf - Hassan."
The issue that R Ashoka is referring to is this: In the Assembly elections last year, Siddaramaiah faced a defeat from the constituency of Chamundeshwari. Propelled by a political chicanery by Deve Gowda, it was GT Deve Gowda of the JD(S) who emerged victorious.
Well, Siddaramaiah had not minced words when he expressed his disappointment over losing the seat. Now, in what can be considered an opportune moment, BJP alleges that Deve Gowda is scared of Siddaramaiah as he is "vindictive and spiteful and might turn out to be a curse" for Deve Gowda.
As regards Prajwal Revanna, if Deve Gowda does contest from Hassan, it is implicit that he will be scapegoated.
