It’s official! Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Bengaluru North. The incumbent MP from this constituency is
Bengaluru: This Lok Sabha election, it will be Gowda versus Gowda in the Bengaluru North constituency. One is the JD(S) chief while the other one is known to have a pleasant countenance all the time.
Cutting the long story short, HD Deve Gowda is all set to take on Union minister DV Sadananda Gowda in the Bengaluru North constituency. The suspense was finally killed when JD(S) party honchos urged Deve Gowda to contest in this part of the state. At a party meeting held at JP Bhavan under the leadership of H Vishwanath, the party president, it was decided that Deve Gowda would lock horns with DV Sadananda Gowda.
But why would Deve Gowda relinquish a constituency like Hassan to fight it out against DV Sadananda Gowda? That is because the senior most Gowda has offered that seat to his grandson Prajwal Revanna, the son of HD Revanna.
At the party meeting, seniors also urged Gowda to test his luck from Tumakuru as well, but Deve Gowda zeroed in on Bengaluru North.
One of the chief reasons why Deve Gowda cherrypicked this constituency is due to the dominance of the Vokkaliga community. There are three JD(S) MLAs from this region (namely Mahalakshmi Layout, Dasarahallli and Byatarayanapura), who will work overtime to ensure HD Deve Gowda walks to Lok Sabha through this constituency.
The sitting MP from the constituency in question is DV Sadananda Gowda who has had a very good run for the last several years. That this time he will be challenged by HD Deve Gowda is only welcome for him.
“I respect HD Deve Gowda, but I don’t feel intimidated by him. All these days, I fought with small fish. But this time, I will be taking on a big man. I am happy about it and highly confident that I will emerge victorious,” said Sadananda Gowda.
Deve Gowda had earlier said that he did not have any desire to contest, but was prodded to contest one last time by his supporters. At the same time, he had to forego his Hassan constituency as he had to accommodate his grandson.
