Nityanand’s campaign can literally be heard by everyone. In his unique campaign idea, he blows conch shells with his supporters to attract the attention of BMC officials for the reconstruction of the potholes. So far, he has managed to repair over 500 potholes in Mumbai.

Mumbai: Potholes on city roads are a serious issue that often cause accidents. To find a solution to the problem, Nityanand Sharma has found an interesting idea. With a few of his supporters, he finds the potholes, and blows the conch shells to call BMC officials to the area. It is an interesting idea but let’s find out how it works.

Nityanand’s Self-Respect Forum

Nityanand came up with this idea in July 2022. He is the president of Atmasamman Manch (Self-respect forum). Like everyone else, he had been suffering from Mumbai’s potholes for decades. He had read thousands of news regarding accidents caused by these potholes. On many occasions, he had written letters to the BMC but no official ever paid attention to these letters.

One day, he decided to find a solution to this problem. He started to organize a campaign where he would grab the attention of the BMC officials at the sound of the conch shells.

Social work since college days

Nityanand received his inspiration from his father, Ram Jatan Sharma and his mother, Pushpa Sharma. They raised him well and taught him to do work selflessly for the betterment of humanity. He was interested in social work since his university days. He was felicitated with the National Prize in the Youth Parliament.

Shankhnaad Campaign

Nityanand was joined by many supporters. His first campaign site was Ayurvedacharya Prakash Indian Tata. He gathered there with some people and started blowing the shells. The whole act was recorded on video.

As soon as the music was heard by the authorities, they arrived at the site to inspect. To their surprise, they found a group of people running their campaign. The officials were made aware about the potholes, and soon the roads were reconstructed.

When people learned about Nityanand’s campaign, they were impressed by his work and called him several times to do the same in different areas. Rather than being known with his name, people started calling him Shankhnaad.

Gaining momentum

So far, Nityanand has helped mend 500 potholes. He blows his shells with his supporters and leaves the site after the officials arrive. The group visits the site again in 2-3 days to reassess the situation. If they don’t find roads in better conditions, they repeat the same activity until the work is done.

He was also opposed by several haters. Some people in position did not like his campaign and conspired against him to make him lose his hope.

But Nityanand received incredible support from the common public. His efforts to create a better society were appreciated everywhere.

Involvement in other social work

Nityanand’s area of work is not limited to one arena. He talks about several issues from time to time. He has also raised the importance of giving leaves from work to women during menstruation.

Nityanand goes out of his way to be of help to others. He wishes to bring a sense of ease in everyone’s life.
