Who is Sridhar Vembu?
Sridhar Vembu worked for an international company called Qualcomm based in San Diego for two years. After that, he invested in his own business and launched a software venture ‘Advent Net.’ His first business model was immensely successful and helped him earn a revenue of $500 million in the first year itself. As per the statistics, more than 18 million people use this software. Post the success of his business venture in America, Sridhar Vembu opened a school in a village in Tamil Nadu.
Sridhar Vembu’s background
Sridhar Vembu was born in the year 1968 in a middle-class household. He had a keen interest in his studies since childhood and went on to pursue an engineering degree from IIT Madras. Then, he completed his doctorate degree from Princeton University, USA, in 1989. During his PhD, he focused on subjects like Political Science and Economics and learned about the future of business in Indian markets.
New beginnings
After doing a job for two years in USA, Sridhar Vembu returned to India to venture into a new business. In the year 1996, he launched his software development firm called ‘Advent Net’ and made tremendous profits in the first year itself, making a revenue of $500 million. In 2009, the name of the company was changed to ‘Zoho Corporation.’
Setting up an office in village
Although Sridhar Vembu lived in the USA for several years and worked in an international environment, he still had his attachment with the village life in Chennai. After successfully establishing his business in India, Sridhar decided to build an office in Mathalamparai village in Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu, to change the migration pattern.
When the company started to hire people from outside Chennai, he rented a small office in Tenkasi district and worked towards his goal. These endeavours in village and remote areas also help him provide education to children.
