The women of Chhattisgarh are a step ahead from massive companies. A team of 11 women are manufacturing natural emulsion paints from cow dung. These paints are now in huge demand.

Raipur: One will find it surprising to know that a team of women from Balod district of Chhattisgarh, is producing emulsion paints from cow dung. These natural paints are being made in the small-scale factories of Raipur. The emulsion paints and distemper products made from the cow dung are sustainable and harmless.

Profit in 6 months

Sakshi Sinha had this idea in the month of January 2023. She is the president of the self-help group that manufactures these paints.

According to her, almost one thousand litres of paint is prepared in a day. One litre of a paint-can is sold at Rs 30. So far, 11,000 litres of the products have been sold and their group has made a profit of Rs 3.30 lakh.

Installing the machines

The self-help group bought colour machines with the profit margin that they made. The colour machine cost around Rs 1.5 lakh and was bought in the month of May. A total of 11 women workers work for the company and are paid on a daily basis.

Making of the paints

The first step involves mixing the cow dung with water in huge mixer machines. The fibre and liquid are separated with the help of natural substances. If required, natural colours and tints are added to it.

Due to these natural substances, the paints are earning popularity in the market.

Gaining the confidence

Sakshi Sinha shares that when they were just housewives, no body recognized their hard work. They were dependent on their husbands for money and as a result they did not receive appreciation. Their desire to form their own individual identity helped them form this self-help group. Now, they earn their own money and are self-reliant.

Sakshi, along with her fellow workers, felt extremely proud when the DM of Balod district recognized their hard work. They received motivation from the DM to continue with their work.

Demand of natural paints in the market

Emulsion paints produced from chemicals are harmful for the health. However, the natural paints made from cow dung are 100% organic and have antibacterial and antifungal properties in them. They protect the houses from heating up in the summers and are available at a much cheaper price.
