Sidharth S Oberoi took a leap of faith by leaving his job as a project engineer in the US to establish LetsShave in a modest room in Chandigarh. Today, his venture has skyrocketed in value, reaching crores, and its products are now available in over 100 countries.
Success stories often inspire us and ignite our ambition to dream big. One remarkable example is Sidharth S Oberoi from Chandigarh, who made the bold decision to leave his project engineer job in the US and return to India to start his own company. Today, his brand, LetsShave, has become a major player in the market, but it all began in a tiny room. Let’s delve into the inspiring journey of Sidharth Oberoi.
Education
Sidharth Oberoi was born and raised in Chandigarh, where he completed his school education at Vivek High School. His academic excellence, coupled with a strong interest in science and technology, opened doors for him to study abroad. He pursued his education at renowned institutions, including Purdue University, Sapienza University of Rome, and Harvard Business School.
US-based job
After completing his studies, Sidharth began his career as a project engineer in the US. This experience marked a pivotal moment in his life, but he always harboured aspirations of doing something unique and impactful. While living in a university dorm room, he conceived the idea of innovating in the shaving industry, a vision that lingered in his mind. During his time in the US, Sidharth noticed a lack of affordable and quality shaving options in the market. Motivated to fill this gap, he shared his concept with several influential figures in the industry. However, he was still engrossed in his job and unable to dedicate himself fully to developing this idea.
Launching LetsShave
Sidharth seized the opportunity to bring his idea to life when a Korean company, Dorco, expressed interest in partnering with him. This was a significant turning point, prompting him to leave his job and return to India. In 2015, Sidharth founded LetsShave, setting up operations in a small 10x10 room in Ambala. The early days were challenging; he received only 30 to 40 orders a month, earning just one lakh rupees during that time.
Gaining success
Sidharth aimed to improve the quality of shaving products and offer customers a fresh experience. To achieve this, he focused on developing diamond-coated razor blades. This innovative technology not only improved the performance of his products but also set them apart in the market. Today, LetsShave receives over 20,000 orders each month. In just four years, the company has raised $6 million in investments, gaining support from prominent investors, including the Korean razor company Dorco and the Indian giant Wipro.
Recognition
In 2018, LetsShave secured investment from the Korean razor company Dorco, which significantly enhanced the quality of its products and facilitated large-scale expansion. Then, in 2020, the Indian multinational company Wipro also invested in LetsShave, marking a major milestone for Sidharth and his venture. Today, LetsShave sells its products in over 100 countries, a testament to Sidharth's hard work and innovative ideas, which have garnered international recognition. Currently, the company is valued at approximately Rs 54 crore.
