Success Story: A Vegetable Vendor’s Daughter Cracks UPSC After Five Failed Attempts

Swati Rathod’s success story embodies the saying “where there is a will, there is a way.” During her UPSC journey, she experienced numerous setbacks and yet refused to give up in the face of adversity. Let’s read about her inspiring journey.

Swati Mohan Rathod grew up in a poor family where her father earned a living by working as a vegetable seller. She had dreams of achieving big in her life. However, her family’s financial condition was so dire that even affording education was challenging. Despite these hardships, Swati showed remarkable courage and determination. She faced numerous setbacks and eventually secured 492nd rank in the UPSC 2023 exam. 

Background

Swati, hailing from Solapur, Maharashtra, completed her school studies from a government school. She earned her graduation and post-graduation degrees in Geography. With hopes of giving her family a better life, she decided to pursue UPSC preparation. 

Family's support

She received immense support from her family to prepare for the UPSC exam. The biggest challenge that Swati’s father faced was saving up money for her education. To ensure, her education continued, her mother mortgaged her jewellery. Swati dedicated herself fully to her studies. However, despite her relentless efforts, she faced failure for five consecutive years. 

Achieving success

Despite experiencing numerous failures, Swati’s will to become a civil servant never diminished. She gave her sixth attempt in UPSC 2023. When the results were announced, her family was overwhelmed with tears of joy as Swati secured the 492nd rank in the merit list. Her success story truly stands as an inspiration for thousands of aspirants.
