Mukesh Mickey Jagtiani’s life is no less than a film. In younger days, he worked as a driver to pay his university fees. After returning to his family, he suffered from great emotional pain. But he worked hard and climbed up the ladder of success. Today, he is one of the richest people of the country.
Who is Mukesh Mickey Jagtiani?
Mukesh was born in Kuwait in 1951. He is of Indian origin and is the owner of Landmark Group, that is a retail chain based in Dubai. His company is one of the largest exporters of non-food items in Gulf countries.
Mukesh did his early education from Chennai and Mumbai. He moved to London at the age of 17 with a desire to receive better education. He did not have any financial aid, so he worked as a driver to pay off his rent and daily expenses. Unfortunately, he could not complete his studies because of dearth of money. He had to drop of his college, and this prevented him from getting a decent job.
Later, he moved to Bahrain and found a menial job in a hotel. Due to poor living conditions, he returned to Kuwait.
Cruelty of life
Mukesh’s life had not been going well. But he moved back to Kuwait in hopes to start a new life for himself.
His life played a great joke on him. After his return, the health of his family members started deteriorating because of various reasons. Mukesh’s brother died from leukaemia. His father was suffering from diabetes, and his mother had cancer. After his parents’ death, he was left all alone.
Despite suffering from the mental shock of losing all his family members, Mukesh did not give up on life.
First rented shop in Bahrain
Mukesh was only 20 years old then. His life seemed blank, and he had no one to guide him. To earn a living, he took over the shop that his brother used to run.
Mukesh had $6000 with him that was left over by his family. He utilized that amount to buy baby products and added them his rented shop. He did not hire anyone and did all the packing and delivering of products by himself.
A decade later, he was operating a chain of six shops. He built a trust among his customers and got popular in the realm of business. Then, 100 workers were working for his company.
In 1992, a war broke out in the Gulf countries. Mukesh struggled with the sales and thought of relocating his business to Dubai.
A net worth of 42 thousand crore
Mukesh established his retail chain with the name Landmark Group in Dubai. Gradually, his business expanded to Africa, India, and other countries as well.
His company exported products like children’s clothing, toys, electronics, furniture etc. Currently, he has 2300 stores all over the world and more than 55 thousand people work for his company.
In the year 2015, he was listed on the 10 richest people of the country by Forbes India. Mukesh Mickey’s wife helps run the business as the CEO of the Landmark Group. The turnover of the business is Rs 42 thousand crore.
