Gurugram: Young professionals find it difficult to make a career change even at the age of 30. They often meet with disappointments in their pursuit. But milestones are only achieved when one refuses to give up in the face of adversities.
Here is an inspiring story of a 58-year-old model who started a career in modelling late in her life and still achieved success. She is almost 60 and one might think that she should retire at this age, but Mukta Singh has just started to make a name for herself and at the moment she is unstoppable.
Who is Mukta Singh?
Mukta Singh is a resident of Gurugram, Haryana. Her husband was a fighter pilot in the Airforce. Due to her husband’s transferable jobs, she often moved places. Even her father’s job required her to move to different cities. This prevented her from forging deep bond with her friends and she suffered a loss in her studies. Due to this reason, her father admitted her in a boarding school in Ajmer. She holds a master’s degree in English.
Mukta’s marriage with a fighter pilot
Mukta shares that education was the top priority in her family. Her parents sent her to good schools which enabled her to become self-reliant. During her university studies, she met with a boy, fell in love and got married. Her husband was a fighter pilot in the Airforce. It was a job that required the couple to frequently relocate to different cities.
Mukta’s husband was extremely supportive of her dreams. She worked as a freelancer for event management companies, newspapers and magazines. She is a creative person and keeps herself busy with activities like painting and music.
Mukta’s family
Mukta’s husband took an early retirement, and the family settled in Gurugram. The salary and the pension were not enough to send her kids to the same good schools that she and her husband had studied from. But her kids are successful individuals today. Her son received a degree in law from London and got a job there.
Modelling job from social media
Mukta had always been enthusiastic about keeping herself fit. She maintained good health by regular exercises and healthy diet. When her mother fell ill, she devoted all her time in her service. Her own health became a second priority and she often missed eating meals. Her daughter observed these new habits of her mother and expressed her concern about her health. She took a promise from Mukta that she would take care of her health before anything else.
During the same time, she had bought a saree from Akaro brand to attend a relative’s wedding. She clicked many pictures and posted some of them on her social media account tagging the brand Akaro. The company came across the pictures and immediately contacted her for a modelling assignment. Currently, Mukta works as a model for the fashion designer Shweta Kapoor. She has also been featured in Bazaar magazine.
Public’s comments
When Mukta started sharing more of her modelling pictures on the social media account, a lot of people started writing negative and disrespectful comments about her. She was berated for wearing short clothes and sporting a fashionable style at her age.
These comments often made her demotivated and she questioned her capabilities. But her family supported her though all the phases and made her realize that she must maintain her confidence to inspire other people who face the same issues on the internet. Today, Mukta is defying all the social norms to be the person she had always wanted to be.
