Meet Yashasvi Jaiswal, the rising star of Indian cricket team, who once worked as a street vendor

Yashasvi Jaiswal gained widespread recognition when he scored an impressive 319 runs in a Giles Shield match back in 2015. He excelled in the Under-19 World Cup and IPL, which ultimately made him a shining star. He has made history by becoming the third Indian batsman to score two double centuries in Test series against England.

New Delhi: Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal is making headlines for his stellar performance in the Test matches against England. In the last three matches, he has scored two double centuries, and has emerged as the leading run-scorer with a total of 545 runs. He has played seven test matches for India. 

Family background

Yashasvi Jaiswal was born in the Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh. His father earns a livelihood by running a small shop and his mother is a homemaker. Growing up, Yashasvi faced financial challenges but regardless of that he was determined to pursue a career in cricket. At the age of 10, he relocated to Mumbai to pursue his dreams. 

Life in Mumbai

Yashasvi’s life in Mumbai was strewn with challenges. He struggled to make the ends meet and earned a living by selling golgappa on the streets and working as a cleaner in dairies. He lived in a make-shift tent for three years due to the lack of housing. Despite these hardships, his ambition to become a renowned cricketer did not diminish. Eventually, with immense hard work, he achieved his goal and earned a spot in the Indian cricket team.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s exceptional skills were noticed by coach Jwala Singh. Impressed by his abilities, the coach provided him with much needed support. Yashasvi’s relentless hard work helped him secure his spot in the team and today, he is showing his talent on the international cricket ground.

Breaking records

Yashasvi Jaiswal has made history by becoming the third Indian batsman to score two double centuries in Test series against England. He has also made the record for hitting the most sixes in a Test innings, joining the cricket legends Virat Kohli, Vinod Kambli, and Wasim Akram.
