Meet Sabhya Gupta, an 8-year-old chef from Jaipur

Jaipur: Most 8-year-old children prefer to engage in playful activities which is not uncommon. However, there is an extraordinary 8-year-old who has been mastering the art of cooking since the age of four. Jaipur’s Sabhya Gupta is a child prodigy, who is popular for his exceptional knowledge about cooking. He has gained immense recognition on social media platforms. 

Who is Sabhya Gupta?

Sabhya Gupta lives in Jaipur with his family. His mother Dr Ruchika Gupta is a cardiologist, and his father Anil Gupta is a businessman. Presently, he is a student of grade 2 at Jayshree Periwal International School, Jaipur. Apart from cooking, he also has a deep interest in dance, drama, and music. Being so young, he has grabbed many awards at inter school level competitions. 

Recognizing the talent

Sabhya Gupta’s mother, Dr Ruchika shares that when he was 9 months old, the whistle of the pressure cooker used to delight him. When he grew a little, he would take special interest in learning about kitchen utensils. At the age of 2, he began watching his parents prepare meals in the kitchen, which piqued his interest in cooking. 

The journey

During the lockdown, Sabhya Gupta participated in online cooking contests with his mother, and he received special praise for making a mug cake. This marked the beginning of his cooking journey on Instagram. 

Sabhya shares that he has a fondness for cooking a variety of dishes. He particularly enjoys making the sweet dish jalebi. He used to enjoy watching the process of jalebi making at nearby shops. 

Sabhya’s favourite dish

Sabhya expresses a special interest for Namakpara. It holds a special significance as it was the first dish, he learned to cook to celebrate an occasion. He enjoys creating a flour mountain, shaping it like a volcano, adding ghee, and kneading the dough. Sabhya’s favourite chef is Ranveer Brar; he loves his style of describing new recipes. 

Sabhya’s inspiration

Sabhya acknowledges his mother’s efforts in encouraging him to pursue cooking. Dismissing stereotypes, his mother motivates him to appreciate the work he does. The dishes he shares on social media receive thousands of views, and people from all corners of the world love his dedication.
