When determination drives ambition, no obstacle stands in the way of success. This is the remarkable journey of Deshal Dan Ratnu, who grew up in a modest family in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. His father, a tea seller, supported his son's dreams despite the financial hardships. With no formal coaching and limited resources, Deshal achieved the extraordinary feat of clearing the UPSC exam and securing an All India Rank of 82.

Background

Born in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, Deshal Dan Ratnu excelled in his studies from an early age. Consistently topping his classes, he was driven by the aspiration to become an officer. His unwavering dedication pushed him to pursue an engineering degree at IIT Jabalpur. During his time there, he also began preparing for the UPSC exams, following a disciplined study routine.

Deshal Dan came from a financially disadvantaged family. His father ran a tea stall, and he had six siblings. Despite the strain of their limited resources, Deshal refused to let these circumstances stand in the way of his dreams.

Inspiration

The turning point in Deshal Dan's life came in 2010 when his elder brother, serving in the Indian Navy, was martyred. His brother's unwavering encouragement to pursue a career as an officer became a profound source of inspiration for Deshal. Without access to formal coaching, he relied on self-study, focusing on time management, meticulous note-taking, regular revisions, and practising previous years' question papers. In his first attempt, Deshal Dan Ratnu not only cleared the UPSC exam but also secured an impressive 82nd rank, fulfilling his dream of becoming an IAS officer.
