Yogesh Patil secured the 231st rank in the UPSC exam on his very first attempt in 2018, earning a position in the Indian Police Service (IPS). However, his dream was to become an IAS officer. In the year 2019, he reappeared for the exam and secured an AIR 63.
Cracking the UPSC exams even once is considered extremely challenging, but a young man from Maharashtra, has accomplished this feat twice. Initially, he cleared the exams, securing a position as an IPS officer and later he achieved his dream of becoming an IAS officer. His journey is a remarkable example of perseverance, determination, and hard work.
Background
Yogesh Ashokrao Patil, a resident of Pune, has been an outstanding student from a young age. He scored 96.7 percent marks in his class 10 and 94.8 percent marks in class 12. His father works as a primary teacher and his mother is a homemaker. After earning a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from Pune University in 2017, he began preparing for the UPSC Civil Services exams in 2018.
Inspiration
According to media reports, Yogesh’s ultimate goal was to pursue a career in civil services. He was inspired by Dr Shrikar Pardeshi, an IAS officer from Maharashtra cadre, who had made a significant impact on the lives of people in his districts.
Yogesh was deeply inspired by Dr Pardeshi’s work, which motivated him to pursue a career in the civil services.

Yogesh believes that UPSC success is not limited to English medium students, as he himself was educated in a Marathi medium school. Self-assessment and staying inspired are the two most important things in one’s UPSC journey.
Presently, Yogesh is serving as a Special Officer on Duty in the Home and Hill Affairs Department of the Government of West Bengal.
