Urvashi Yadav had never thought of becoming a businesswoman. But her life took such strange turns against her will, that she needed to show her will to persevere. After her husband’s illness, there was a serious dearth of money which prompted her to sell Chhole Kulche on food carts. Initial days were full of struggles, but soon she started making Rs 3000 in a day. Today, Urvashi owns her own restaurant and earns in lakhs.

Gurugram: The hardships of life just never end. When one begins to think that they have finally crossed all obstacles, they are presented with a hundred more obstructions. So, what keeps one motivated to keep moving forward? It’s that single ray of hope that life will get better, and problems will abate someday rather than getting worse. It’s a person’s fighting spirit that sets them apart from everyone else and puts them under the spotlight. Gurugram’s Urvashi Yadav fought her battle with difficult times and came out as a winner.

Who is Urvashi?

Urvashi Yadav belongs to a Punjabi family. Post the completion of her graduation, Urvashi took up a job as a front office executive at Intercontinental Hotel Delhi. In the year 2004, Urvashi got married to Amit Yadav; he used to work as a manager in a construction company. Everything was rolling out like a perfect joyful family scene from a movie. Urvashi’s in-laws were rich, owned a house worth Rs 3 crore and owned SUV cars. Everything was ideal and flawless.

But life has a diabolical way of pulling one’s leg. Things started going downhill for Urvashi when in the year 2016, her husband met with an accident while playing cricket. He suffered from severe injuries and was taken to the hospital. Multiple surgeries were performed, leaving Amit immobile. He gave up his job of a manager. After paying exorbitant bills of the hospitals, not much was left. And since Amit was the only earning member of the family, it became difficult to run the household without his assistance. This was when Urvashi decided to take the matter in her own hands.

Getting a job

Urvashi looked for job opportunities and took up a job as a teacher in a nursery school. Her salary was far from sufficient. She thought of coming up with better ideas. Urvashi’s determination is commendable here as despite living in a rich household, she never hesitated to take up menial jobs in her difficult time. She wanted to open a restaurant but there wasn’t enough money.

Urvashi decide to sell Chhole Kulche on a roadside food stall. Most people refuse to set up food stalls with the fear of having their image tarnished. They associate this work with people from low classes. But Urvashi was brave enough to do anything for her family. The prestige and ego did not block her way and she set up her stall in Gurugram Sector 14.

Getting famous

Leaving the comforts of AC rooms, Urvashi started working under the scorching sun. It was difficult to establish her business as only 2-3 people visited her stall in the beginning. One fine day, she had the opportunity of meeting social media influencer Sonali Anand Gaur who talked to Urvashi about her experiences. Sonali wrote a long, detailed and heart-felt story about Urvashi’s life and shared that on her social media accounts. The word quickly spread around, and people learned about Urvashi’s business.

Customers would visit her stall being curious about her life story. They would make conversations with her and praise her efforts. The taste of her food would make an indelible impression on her customers. She started earning around Rs 3000 to Rs 4000 on a daily basis. People from outside Gurugram started visiting her stall to taste her delicious Chhole Kulche and Parathas.

With time, Amit’s condition started improving. Even her family members no longer felt ashamed to admit that Urvashi was their close family member.

Launching a restaurant

Urvashi started earning enough money that allowed her to open her own food truck. She got a license and expanded her business. Only a few days later, she opened her own restaurant with the name ‘Urvashi Food Joint’. The menu offers a variety of delicacies from all over India. Today, Urvashi makes lakhs in a month.

Making the family proud

While talking about her experiences, Urvashi shares that there were times when she could not sleep for days while being worried about the future of her family. But it was her perseverance that helped her get though all the difficult times. She did not only manage to pay her children’s school fees and her husband’s hospital bills, but she also made a name for herself and came out as an idol for her family members.

Urvashi shares that had she not followed this path due to the fear of being called a street vendor, she would still have been living in bleak circumstances. Urvashi’s husband and in-laws feel proud of her accomplishments.
