Dr Jwala Prasad's journey from a small village in Champaran, Bihar, to receiving a prestigious award at Oxford University in London is truly amazing. On October 2, 2024, Dr Prasad was honoured with the Mahatma Gandhi Leadership Award. He is currently the Director of Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, an organization under the Ministry of Culture.

Background

Dr Jwala Prasad's childhood was filled with challenges. There were times when he and his family struggled to find enough food, but his parents never lost hope. His father was a farmer, and neither of his parents had an education, yet they worked hard to ensure their children received a good education. Dr Prasad completed his primary schooling at Saraswati Vidya Mandir. Despite their difficult financial situation, he focused on his studies and became one of the top students in his class 10.

Higher education

After completing class 12, Dr Jwala Prasad enrolled in the prestigious Patna Science College for his higher education. He faced many financial challenges there as well. Paying for hostel and meal fees was tough, and sometimes it was difficult to get enough food to eat. However, his self-confidence kept him strong. He focused on his studies and continued to move forward despite all the difficulties he faced.

Being an inspiration

After attending Patna Science College, Dr Jwala Prasad enrolled in Hindu College, Delhi University. While studying, he also worked in various government jobs. Through hard work and dedication, he achieved several important positions. Dr Prasad became an inspiration not just for himself but also for his family. He brought his siblings to Delhi and supported their education. One of his brothers is now a judge, and one of his sisters is a teacher. His efforts have made his entire family proud.
