Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel recently honoured four children when they went out of their way to save the life of a newborn child. The young kids were busy playing when they saw something suspicious floating in the water and fetched it out only to have found a baby shivering from cold inside of it. The police were called, and the baby was handed over to the authorities.

On 16 August 2023, four young children -- Tauseef, Haseeb, Ehsaan and Gufran -- were playing at Kudiya Ghat in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow. They noticed three people throw a little round bag into the river and rushing away in a hurry on their scooter.

The kids were curious and thought those men had thrown a teddy bear into the river. They jumped in and hurried to pull that bag out and were left astonished to look at what it contained. The next thing they knew, they were running to call for people for help.

Saving the life of a newborn

Tauseef, a 10-year-old boy from a small village in Lucknow, recollects the story to share with people. He mentions that during their play time in the morning at 11.30, he with his friends saw three men throw something into the river.

When they pulled that bag out from the water, they were surprised to see a newborn baby shivering from the cold. The children were quick witted and ran for help as quickly as possible. Tauseef narrated the story to his father and handed over the baby to him.

Tauseef’s father, Varis, shares that he could not believe the kids at first and was worried that the newborn’s parents might be worried about the baby. He further mentions that when the kids told him everything, he felt proud of them for saving a baby’s life.

He gave the baby to his wife Hajra to clean him and relieve him from the shock. Tauseef’s parents made sure that the baby was fed and comfortable before calling the authorities.

Finding help

Varis took help of his sister to look after the child while he informed the police. His sister is childless and the motherly love she shared on the child was heartwarming. The police arrived soon and took the baby in custody to allow a Children’s hospital take care of the child.

The baby was admitted in Matri Shishu Referral Hospital. Varis’ sister was a little disappointed and wary of giving the baby to the police, but such motherly emotions are not allowed to hamper with the police proceedings.

Children’s bravery

The word spread around, and in no time the whole village was praising the four kids, Tauseef, Haseeb, Ehsaan and Gufran. Through their noble work, they became stars of their village, and could not contain their wide smiles every time they received appreciation.

The police took the four kids to give them nice haircuts before sending them to the Governor, Anandiben Patel. The courageous kids were given clothes and a nice meal and then they got the opportunity to meet the Governor.

To encourage them to continue being such good-hearted children, Anandiben Patel offered them school bags, books and stationary items. The parents of these kids were given appreciation for raising these brave kids.

Stars of the town

All four kids come from humble families. Tauseef’s father Varis works as a daily wage labourer and has lost sight in one eye. He feels proud of his son and believes that in the future Tauseef will take on the responsibility of helping his family lead a better life.

Haseeb is the youngest of five siblings, and his parents Rafiq and Najara feel elated to talk about their son’s bravery act. Ehsaan and Gufran’s parents praised the children and felt proud of them.
